Company Pilous - band saws will introduce a new power saw at the trade fair WOOD-TEC. It is a brand new conception of the machine, mainly for cutting wood - trunks into slabs. "It is going to be the smallest band saw that the company has developed so far. We also produce band saws for metal; that is why we managed to merge this experience in this model. We created a brand new band saw, unique in the world, which uses a standard band usually used for cutting metal to cut also wood," Petr Mašek - one of the co-owners of the company - said.
This saw is designed for those who found their hobby in cutting. Nowadays, at the time of great depression, these smaller saws have the best sales practically in the whole Central and Eastern Europe. Many people living in rural areas have their own woods and they sell wood as it grows, so to say. Every farmer or builder of various sheds and houses for living would like to cut their wood on free weekends or when there is no work in the field. "The advantage of the saw is that people need not use professional band machines. It is a hybrid of a saw for wood and a saw for metal which uses a standard saw band. In this case, there is no need to grind the saw or set its teeth, no need to have a saw grinder or a saw setter, and mainly, one does not have to have any experience with this kind of work which is the most difficult operation to perform when cutting wood," Mašek explained.
At the fair, the company will present a prototype of the new saw. After that, this novelty will be tested for several months directly with customers. However, the technology has already been tested. (The prototype was used at a company producing bridge structures; they had some problems cutting I profiles at length.) The new hobby saws will be supplied to markets by the end of this year. Maximum diameter of the material to cut is 520 mm. Working with the saw is simple - the entire band is running over a tree as it is when working with a classic band saw for wood.
"Preliminary price is about 60,000 CZK. The equipment has extendable sections, so it depends on how tall is the tree one would like to cut. It is possible to set the extensions in two metres and the client will choose how many they need to buy. Smaller teeth on the band are also advantageous, because this feature decreases motor input only to 3 kW. This allows using the saw practically anywhere, it is possible to connect such a small generating unit for example in garage," Mašek added.
The saw called CTR 520 is the smallest machine designed mainly for cutting smaller volumes of timber. The device is ideal for family farms, carpentries or small timber mills. It is the first device in the world to use bimetal saw band which is usually used in saw bands for metal.
The saw has the following advantages:
- very simple operation,
- the same saw band cuts without teeth adjusting (grinding, teeth setting) all kinds of wood
- the maximum accuracy of cut same as with professional machines, tedious and technically demanding grinding and teeth setting is no longer needed.
- no need to buy saw band grinder or saw setter.
- it is possible to cut wood immediately and professionally with no experience.
- availability and small purchase price of the bimetal saw band.
- total machine input 3 kW guarantees low operation costs and easy connection.
- the machine has manual feeding to depth and back and height adjustment with a crank arm.
This year, the company turned to new projects within the depression in order to be still competitive in the upcoming period. For example, the company Pilous has its own facilities in America and Russia. According to Mašek, here in particular a certain market revival is already taking place. This country is independent from export of classical engineering technology.
The PILOUS company was established in 1994 in Brno, the second biggest city and industrial center of the Czech Republic. The owner of the company assembled their first band saw in a rented garage and also in 1994 they successfully presented it at the International Engineering Fair in Brno and then also at the fair WOOD-TEC. From this time, the company has undergone an explosive development and the result is a wide range of produced types from small hand machines to industrial CNC automatic machines. Approximately 80% of the production is exported to about 40 countries, mainly to the markets of Western and Eastern Europe, but also to America, Asia and Africa.

Today, they produce more than 250 pieces a year in many modifications and they work on all continets.
